Privacy
Oil Manual is built as a static, manual-first reference. The current site does not require an account, does not ask for a VIN, and keeps saved-garage records in your browser.
Saved garage
The saved garage stores vehicle notes, oil choices, mileage, and service dates in this browser's local storage. That data stays on this device unless you print it, copy it, clear your browser storage, or use browser sync outside Oil Manual.
Correction submissions
The correction form is designed for evidence about oil data, such as a page URL, vehicle record, manual reference, and description of the issue. Do not send VINs, addresses, payment details, or other unnecessary personal information.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (gtag.js), but only after you accept analytics cookies in the consent banner — until then GA is not loaded and no analytics cookies are set. Once enabled it sets cookies and sends usage and device data to Google (see Google's own privacy terms); declining is just as easy, and your choice is remembered on this device. Separately, a first-party analytics helper dispatches local events in the browser and sends them to a network endpoint only when a production endpoint is configured. The event catalog is public at /analytics-events.
Search
Site search uses a static Pagefind index generated at build time. Searches run in the browser against that static index.
Email reminders
Email reminders are not active yet. Before reminders launch, Oil Manual needs production hosting, privacy copy for storage and unsubscribe behavior, and an email provider with a clear opt-in and deletion path.
Contact
Until the production domain email is configured, use the correction form for data issues and include only information needed to verify the claim. For security issues affecting the site itself, use the security disclosure path.
